Clean & Safe

Keeping Downtown Chapel Hill clean, safe, and welcoming is a top priority. Through hands-on care, community partnerships, and a dedicated team on the ground, we’re committed to creating a vibrant environment where everyone feels comfortable and connected.

Clean & Green Team

The members of our Clean & Green Team make Downtown Chapel Hill sparkle and shine! They are committed to maintaining a clean, welcoming, and safe downtown environment. They take care of the graffiti, posters, and stickers, trash and weeds, and water the planters on that local landscaper, Lauri Lawson maintains on the East end of Franklin Street. They serve as ambassadors to students, visitors, and locals. They also keep an eye on those experiencing homelessness in our community, assisting the local service agencies.

Lauri Lawson is our landscaper keeping the planters in the 100 East block of Franklin Street vibrant as the seasons change. She owned and operated Niche Gardens for 32 years, a garden center that was located 8 miles west of Chapel Hill with amazing botanicals and a focus on native plants that closed in 2019. She currently works in downtown Raleigh designing and taking care of the gardens in the museum area and at the Governor’s Mansion. We are excited for her to share her expertise and caring for the plants within the district.

The Street Outreach, Harm Reduction and Deflection (SOHRAD) program connects people experiencing homelessness in Orange County with housing and services. Peer support and clinical staff use a relationship-based model to provide ongoing engagement and case management for people living unsheltered.

SOHRAD is co-managed by the Orange County Criminal Justice Resource Department and the Orange County Partnership to End Homelessness in the Orange County Housing & Community Development Department.

The Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership supports the work of SOHRAD by reporting needs that are brought to our attention and connecting businesses with this organization.
