Join Chapel Hill Poet Laureate, Cortland Gilliam in exploring the larger topics of the climate crises and how they relate locally in our own communities. This is an environmental justice education and poetry writing workshop that will incorporate lessons from local struggles for environmental justice within BIPOC communities to help connect the idea of climate change to its effects on people’s real-life experiences and lifeways. From the poetry, each participant will choose words they find important. Each word will be planted in the ground to grow into powerful, living extensions of their voices in public spaces throughout Chapel Hill as part of Floraffiti®, a community engagement project in its 8th year in Chapel Hill. The poems will be accessible via QR code at each site through June. Register at the website for this free event.
