Celebrating a new Strategic Plan!

SP 5 - Appreciation Activity 11

Written by Erika Akers, UNC Gillings MPH Candidate and CCC Strategic Planning Intern

After 4 years of work amidst a global pandemic and rapidly changing landscape in town-gown communities, the Chapel Hill Campus Community Coalition to Reduce the Negative Impacts of High-Risk Drinking (CCC, Coalition) set out to adopt a new strategic plan. First, we assembled a subcommittee to review progress from the most recent 2020 Action Plan, and assess the current landscape. The subcommittee paid careful attention to get feedback from the larger coalition membership and key Town-Gown partners throughout the process, balancing an evidence-based public health approach with the expertise and lived experience of Coalition members representing the communities the CCC serves.

After 4-5 months of work this spring, the CCC is excited to announce its new 3 year strategic plan! It includes 12 strategies, that cross-cut the 5 Strategic Areas for Environmental Change (adapted from Sally Linowski’s work with the University of Massachusetts-Amherst’s CCC): limiting alcohol availability, restricting alcohol marketing, promoting alcohol-free social options, ensuring consistent enforcement of laws, and addressing social norms surrounding drinking and substance use.

Check out our new plan here The CCC will initiate action plans with working groups over the summer.
