Mother’s Day is quickly approaching, and Downtown Chapel Hill is prepared to pamper all the mothers out there! Local content creator, Taylor McLean, put together this Mother’s Day guide to help you and your mothers get the most out of celebrating this holiday in Downtown Chapel Hill.
A majority of our small businesses are open Mother’s Day weekend. Due to Coronavirus related restrictions, we recommend making reservations and appointments when possible.
There is something about brunch that makes holidays even more special. It’s fun to sleep in, take your time getting ready, and then sit down at a lovely restaurant to enjoy a meal with your favorite people! Mothers don’t get the opportunity for a slow morning too often, so I highly recommend taking her to brunch at one of the following Downtown Chapel Hill restaurants.
?138 E. Franklin St
? Open 8 AM – 3 PM daily
? This restaurant was recently awarded by The Daily Tar Heel Carolina’s Finest 2021 “Best Brunch” and “Best Outdoor Seating”. They serve breakfast, brunch, coffee, cocktails, and more all day making it the perfect spot to celebrate mom!

As a Chapel Hill mom, my ideal itinerary would include a hair treatment and blow dry at To The Woods, sipping on a coffee or drinking hot chocolate while examining the bookshelves at Epilogue, signing up for a yoga class at Franklin St. Yoga, and finishing off the day following the Chapel Hill Downtown Walking Map to discover cool murals and art scattered around town!

When asked what we want for Mother’s Day, most moms might respond with “nothing”, or “I don’t need anything”. They’re lying. We want to be surprised with something thoughtful! Lucky for you, several Chapel Hill small businesses have the perfect gifts for the mothers in your life!
Here are a few Downtown Chapel Hill shops you need to mosey on over to for Mother’s Day gifts!
Mothers love flowers! I thought I didn’t, but after getting flowers as a gift on my first Mother’s Day, I LOVE them.
I picked up this beautiful Mother’s Day themed bouquet from University Florist this week. It’s stunning! The shop has vases available now in their fridge, or you can customize an arrangement featuring your mom’s favorite colors!
Follow me on Instagram, @taylorhopemclean, for a chance to win a custom bouquets from University Florist. The giveaway will run from Monday, May 3rd, to Wednesday, May 5th!
My obsession with jewelry (let’s call it what it is), has only grown since I became a mom. There’s something about putting on a necklace and earrings that complete the mom uniform.
My favorite Chapel Hill jewelry shop is Light Years Jewelry. They carry a variety of affordable, high quality pieces that are sure to bring a smile to Mom’s face.
Light Years carries mom-themed pieces (like the mother & child dangles or mama bear stamped bracelet), or you could go with a staple gold chain necklace, hoops, birthstone earrings, or personalized piece.
Books, brews, candles, and chocolate. What’s not to love about Epilogue’s Mother’s Day Gift Box? These surprise boxes include a book related to motherhood, candle, bag of coffee or tea, toffee, and chocolate! Everything except the book is locally sourced! It is a top tier Mother’s Day gift!
Uniquities, a premium boutique on Franklin St., has all the cute things that are on any mom’s wish list!
Thank you for supporting our Downtown Chapel Hill small businesses and celebrating moms this week!
