Floraffiti® invites you to become a Floragardener and plant words around Chapel Hill as part of this community engagement project.
Let’s get dirty! Come dressed in comfortable clothes and close-toed shoes to garden. All tools, gloves, and materials will be supplied for ages 13yo and up. We will be planting words that have been selected from local environmental justice themed poetry workshops addressing the social-political challenges and inequities that are exacerbated by the climate crises and how it affects those most impacted by environmental justice.
We will begin at the Morehead Planetarium, meeting on the sidewalk at the street parking and move to other locations to plant along Franklin Street in Chapel Hill as time permits. This event will take place rain or shine!
After the Floragardening, and when the words have sprouted with their green foliage, there will be a sign at each site with a QR code printed on it. Anyone who visits the words can scan the QR code with their smartphone and listen to the poem recorded at the workshops. There will be a different poem at every site.
