Celebrate the Holidays under Franklin Street Lights! Franklin Street, Chapel Hill's most famous corridor, was named for Benjamin Franklin, the father of electricity. In honor of Mr. Franklin, Downtown Chapel Hill celebrates all of the winter holidays under bright lights. Throughout the winter holiday season, shops and restaurants throughout downtown decorate with lights and festive decor.
Tree Lighting Join us to kick off the holiday season with the lighting of our 22' community tree. Children can meet Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. Bring your camera on the Sunday after Thanksgiving to Univeristy Baptist Church on the corner of Franklin Street and Columbia Street.
Snowflakes! All of downtown glows bright during the holiday's under our snowflake decorations. Thanks to the generous contributions of businesses and community members, downtown is illuminated as visitors and shoppers celebrate the holidays. The decorations use state of the art LED lights to both conserve energy and reduce maintenance needs.
