Small Town Pride is here! Take a look at what’s happening during Pride Month in downtown Chapel Hill.
We have ordered new Pride flags, which will hang from 140 West to Peace & Justice Plaza. The flags represent the results of our public survey, which received over 700 responses. Thanks to everyone who provided input!
The annual Pride Promenade will take place Saturday, June 3 at 2 pm! Gather at Peace and Justice Plaza at 1:30 and march alongside performers and other revelers to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. The march will end at 140 West Franklin Plaza for a social gathering with music and activities.
The Graduate Chapel Hill will host a Small Town Pride Happy Hour on Saturday, June 3 at 5pm. There will be drink specials, giveaways, and a live performance by local drag queen Kiki Diamond. You don’t want to miss this post-pride party at Trophy Room! Admission is $5.
Gizmo Brew Works will host a Pride Dance Party on Saturday, June 3 at 7pm. There will be a DJ, drink specials, beer release of Gizmo’s It’s All Love, and giveaways! Advance tickets are $10 and can be purchased here. Tickets at the Door will be sold at the door for $15.
Queer Reader is a book club at Epilogue that aims to provide an affirming and accessible space for LGBTQIA+ readers to discuss queer literature. Each month, we’ll pick a queer book by a queer author to read and discuss together as a community.
One of the goals of this book club is to create a community where LGBTQIA+ folks can gather to, yes, discuss books, but also to forge connections in a low-pressure, laid-back environment with other queer people in their area.
The next meeting will take place Tuesday, June 20th at 7pm, in person. For the June meeting, the group will read Lesbian Love Story by Amelia Possanza.
Get your tickets to Imbibe’s Pride party and drag show on Friday, June 23! Enjoy delicious food and drinks all night long. Doors open at 6pm, and showtime is 7pm. You must be 18+ to attend. FREE mini pride flags for the first 20 people to purchase tickets!
Dead Mule Club will host its annual fundraising event in honor of Pride Month on Saturday, June 24. Proceeds will support the Rainbow Collective for Change.
Join Epilogue for a reading and Q&A with Khalisa Rae, Lauren Bullock, and AsiahMae on June 28th at 6:30 pm, in person (in the Prologue space)! Grab a free ticket so they know you’re coming.
Stop by 140 West and visit the “Queeramid“, designed by local artist, Julia Gartrell. Gartrell states, “Pride Month is a time for celebration and also for reflection. There is a long history of activism surrounding gay and trans rights.” Her work combines colors and iconography from Pride movements with short phrases referencing diverse approaches to queer pride and activism.
Brandwein’s will hold a Fundraiser Friday on June 30! Stop by and grab a bagel, sandwich, salad, or rainbow cupcake; 10% of the proceeds will benefit the UNC LGBTQ Center.
