The Community & Campus Coalition Director reports to the Director of the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, a nonprofit agency, with supplemental reporting lines to the Campus & Community Coalition Executive Committee. Click here to learn more about the Campus & Community Coalition.
The purpose of this position is to provide leadership for a coalition-based, environmental approach to reducing high-risk drinking and related harms at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and in the surrounding Chapel Hill and Orange County community. This is not a clinical counseling position.
This position will lead the Campus & Community Coalition, facilitate the continued development of the coalition’s strategic plan, and manage implementation of this plan and related objectives on behalf of the university and community. This position will work closely with the Campus & Community Coalition, UNC-CH Department of Student Wellness, other key partners within University administration, and community leaders including the Coalition for Alcohol and Drug Free Teenagers, local business owners, Town of Chapel Hill staff, neighborhood associations and the Orange County Health Department.
This position is full time, 40 hours a week; with some night and weekend work. The position is based in Chapel Hill, NC, with some flexibility for working from home/remotely. The salary range is $65,000-$70,000. The position is funded on a 3-year MOU cycle.

Educational Requirements:
Master’s degree required in the social sciences, higher education/student development, public health, health education or a related field
Key Function Areas:
- Coordinate Campus & Community Coalition activities, including recruitment and cultivation of members, facilitation of agendas and meetings, training for members and constituent groups, and promotion of community education and advocacy opportunities.
- Build/sustain strategic relationships and partnerships on campus and in the surrounding community. Facilitate communication/information sharing at all levels in order to facilitate the development of policies and practices that curb high-risk substance use.
- Develop effective protocols and practices to implement strategic plan goals.
- Manage the implementation of the Campus/Community strategic plan to address high-risk substance use.
- Monitor effectiveness of implementation activities and ensure consistency with evidence-based practices.
- Provide training and other professional development opportunities for allied personnel and units on campus and in the community.
- Manage coordinated efforts between town and campus initiatives through staff appointments to the coalition and regular meetings with campus and community policy makers, health educators, and enforcement and accountability agencies.
- Continue to assess needs and evaluated progress of efforts.
- Manage administrative records and reports, including implementation progress, budgets and expenditures, and campus and community data related to high-risk substance use.
- Establish plan for sustainability of efforts, continued strategic planning, and ongoing review.
- Serve on local boards, committees, and commissions, as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Strong skills relevant to establishing and maintaining successful partnerships with students, faculty/staff, community members and other constituent stakeholders.
- Community organizing experience and coalition building a must.
- Strategic planning experience and ability to successfully communicate a shared vision.
- Proficiency in meeting facilitation.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible leadership in student/community health, wellness and safety issues
- Ability to take initiative, balance multiple projects, and work autonomously and as a member of a team
- Excellent verbal and written skills, critical thinking skills, and use of sound judgment
- Knowledge and experience with assessment methods and evaluative processes
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends
- Ability to deescalate conflict and to demonstrate effective assertiveness
- Ability to work seamlessly across multiple populations and disciplines, including but not limited to faculty, staff, students, senor administrators, trustees, parents, alum, town officials, town staff, local merchants, and community residents

Pay Range: $45,000 to $60,000
Job Description:
- Develop, manage and market Downtown Chapel Hill Partnership businesses, events, and co-sponsored events

- College degree in marketing, communications, graphic design, or related field preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written required
- Knowledge of graphic design software like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop &/or other graphic software a bonus
- Passionate about making downtown Chapel Hill a more interesting place
